What is Legacy Project?
It was 13 years ago (in April 2011) when a group of women government leaders in Illinois took action to fortify their legacy. At that time, the number of women in government leadership positions in our state hovered around 18 percent.
It was that statistic that motivated these leaders to create the Legacy Project – a forum dedicated to helping women in government succeed through support, learning, and connecting.
Today, Legacy Project is nearly 200 members strong and continues to live our mission of supporting and empowering women. We are dedicated to the advancement of women in public leadership in local and state government. We aim to help women succeed in public service by enhancing career-building models that develop leadership skills and by providing an opportunity to network with professional women in government.
